ID verification

DefinitionID verification confirms that a member is a real person who matches their photos, usually by checking a government ID and a live selfie.

ID verification answers two questions: does this person exist, and is it the same person as in the profile photos. Most systems ask for a photo of an ID document and a short selfie video, then compare the face and check the document for signs of tampering.

Verified badges increase trust and can reduce scams, but the check adds a step at sign-up. Many apps make it optional with incentives, or require it only for certain features or risk signals.
