### Build, buy or join a platform: how to choose for a dating app

There are three routes to a dating app. Building gives full control but costs the most and takes months. A white label script is cheap upfront but leaves you running and fixing it. A managed platform runs the backend, safety and releases for a fee. Match Group and Bumble both run their brands on shared platforms.

### Dating app launch checklist: from build to App Store approval

Before a dating app launches it needs a privacy policy and terms, age gating, UK and EU safety processes, filtering, reporting and blocking for Apple and Google, in-app account deletion, store billing, a staffed moderation queue, enough members in launch areas, and a short list of metrics. This checklist sets out each step with its source, checked on 16 October 2026.

### How much does it cost to build a dating app in 2026?

Published agency estimates put a dating app build at roughly $15,000 to $80,000 for a basic first version and $150,000 to $600,000 for a Tinder-scale product. The bigger number is running it: in our illustrative example, a 300,000-member app costs about $107,000 a month before app store fees.

### How to migrate a dating app without losing members

To migrate a dating app without losing members, keep the same App Store and Google Play listing, carry over every profile, photo, match, message, block and report, and keep subscriptions inside the same app record. Release in stages, keep the old backend running until the new one is proven, and tell members what is changing before they see it.

### Relaunching a dating brand: lessons from EliteSingles

EliteSingles closed on 30 April 2026 after its operator, Spark Networks, went into insolvency, and members lost their accounts and messages. It relaunched in September under SuccessfulMatch with a new member database. The lesson for buyers: the domain and name transfer easily, but members, store listings and subscriptions only survive if you plan for them.

### Signs your dating app needs a rebuild

A dating app needs a rebuild when its technology stops it doing the basics: shipping updates every few weeks, passing store review, keeping crashes under Google Play's thresholds, adding verification, taking payments reliably and meeting new law. One sign can be fixed. Several at once, plus dependence on one or two engineers, usually means the platform itself is the problem.

### What it takes to run a dating app: the backend checklist

A dating app needs ten backend systems working together: accounts, profiles and photos, discovery and matching, messaging, moderation, ID and age checks, payments, notifications, analytics and compliance. The app screens are the visible part. Most launch delays, store rejections and safety failures trace back to one of these systems being missing or thin.
